Shadowman: Darque Legacy (Announced, Unreleased)
Narrative Director
Collaborating with Valiant Entertainment and the Game Director, developing and overseeing the writing of the cutscenes and in-game observation comments.
Shadowman: Darque Legacy is an in-development 3rd Person Action-Horror game where you take the role of Jack Boniface as he comes to grip with being the Shadowman, a role he inherited from his father, who mysteriously disappeared during a battle with Master Darque when Jack was a child.
As Narrative Director, I worked directly with IP holders Valiant Entertainment alongside the Game Director to define the game’s beat-by-beat narrative breakdown based on their high-level premise. From here, I built a Narrative team of myself and three Game Writers and we began to work together to break and write treatments for each cutscene or in-situ dialogue (voice over events which did not change the camera from the game camera), which was followed by the scripts being written independently, and then workshopped via a virtual writer’s room. Characters were developed through research, character bios, and hypothetical monologues written to find voice. As levels were built, we collaborated with level design to identify moments where it would be suitable for the characters to comment (“remark”), for found notes to be placed, or particular art assets to be used to reveal more about the world and the story. We also consulted from a sensitivity perspective for setting and character.
